Tony Cleverton, Musical Director

Anthony studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, graduating with 1st Class Hons. He won several awards including the prestigious Frederic Cox Award for Singing, the Alexander Young Song Prize, the Robin Kay Memorial Prize for Opera Singing, and was a Major Scholarship recipient from the Peter Moores Foundation.

As a professional opera singer, he has worked as a baritone soloist extensively throughout the UK, Europe and Canada, including a many-year association with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

He came to Skye in 2018, teaching and leading musical endeavours and this year opening his own school in the area, Forte Academy of Music.  He is the Musical Director for LMPA Academy of Performing Arts and Skye Chorus.

Come and Sing with us

You don’t have to read music to join the choir. You don’t even have to sing like a professional! Tony’s brilliance as Musical Director is his ability to bring out the best in everyone. You will soon find you are learning to read music and your singing skills will greatly improve.

The choir is open to everyone over 18 living in the area. 13-18 year olds can join at the discretion of the committee.

Rehearsals

The Choir meets each Sunday at 7pm in Edibane Hall, north Skye and each Wednesday at 7.30pm Breakish Hall in the south. Ther are also monthly joint rehearsals on a Satruday morning in either St Mary’s Church, Portree or Breaksih Hall.The choir organises a rota for tea and cakes.

Cost

There is a termly fee of £60 for all rehearsals. This can be paid is a couple of lumps sums or 4 monthly payments of £15 - or whatever means suits you. Please talk the the Treasurer at your first rehearsal.

The Choir provides the music, or the link to find the correct version of what we are singing. You can rehearse at home using the music files on the Members’ page. You will get the password when you join.
